In 2010, The BHI Croquet Club decided to try to hire a Croquet Pro to help the croquet club players improve their games and to help us expand the croquet program at the Bald Head island Club. We sent out an RFP to several highly qualified Pros, and after considering them all, the Executive Committee chose Jeff Soo, a Durham NC resident, who is a world-class croquet player. We are now in the Fourth year of our program with Jeff. Each year he comes to BHI six or seven times, for 4 days at a time, and teaches lessons, gives clinics on numerous topics, and holds coaching games. All of the players who have participated in the program attest to seeing great improvements in their game.In addition, Jeff has taken over the arduous task of scheduling the BHI Croquet Invitational every year. This tournament, for players with handicaps of 10 or below, accommodates as many as 32 players from all over the country as well as BHI players.
Jeff has been instrumental in the choice of BHI for the NC State Singles tournament for the last 4 years, and for helping the BHI Club in our bid for the Solomon Cup in October of 2012. The Solomon Cup is an international tournament played between the US and Great Britain. Its location alternates between the two countries. 2012 was the first time that the Solomon Cup was played in the US anywhere other than California or Florida.
Lessons with Jeff are open not only to BHI Croquet Club members but to any BHI Club Member. In an effort to get BHI Club members who currently do not play croquet involved in the game, the BHI Croquet Club will advertise the dates of Jeff’s visits to all members of the BHI Club.
